Our two-year Clinical Fellowship in Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry for psychiatric nurse practitioners is an opportunity to practice, learn, and grow in a multidisciplinary and inclusive private practice based in NYC.

You would be a part of our team with an annual salary, PTO, health insurance, 401k matching, FSA/HSA, flexible work schedule, and more. Beyond the fellowship, there may be options to continue at our practice in one of our clinical tracks, which include “Clinician Educator,” “Specialty Clinician,” “Clinical Entrepreneur,” and “Clinical Director.”

Setting

graymatters medical practice is a multidisciplinary & inclusive psychiatric practice in NYC. We invest in our clinicians, by encouraging them to develop their interests, by guiding them to become experts in what they love, and by teaching them to pay it forward. You would be working with us in a hybrid (virtual & in-person) capacity.

Clients

You would be working with kids through adults, with the majority being ages 18-35, for evals, med follow-ups, and med + therapy sessions. The clinical cases would be diverse, ranging from moderate to severe presentations. You would have a caseload lower than most other full-time clinical settings that protects your time for lunch, documentation/other administrative tasks, and education.

Education

Seventy-two weekly clinical didactics are delivered over two years by Ivy League-trained clinicians covering foundational topics as well as neurodivergence, developmental psychiatry, and the art of creating an inclusive, social justice-framed practice. You’ll have weekly supervision, the opportunity to work with and learn from multiple senior clinicians at our practice, and daily access to these clinicians for additional guidance/check-ins as needed.

Applying

Important info to apply:

  • Fellowship start dates are April and September of every year – applications are welcome at any time.
  • You must be a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner.
  • You must have therapeutic optimism, as well as being social justice-oriented.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from diverse backgrounds (such as this being a second career, identifying as coming from a marginalized community, having additional skills/passions, etc.) & those with the ability to work hybrid (virtual + in-person) in NYC.

Our teaching team

As a fellow, you would be taught and guided by Tejal Kaur, MD (Founder & Medical Director), Ruth Alexander, PMHNP-BC (Director of Clinical Services), Amy Zhu, PMHNP-BC (Senior Nurse Practitioner), and potentially others. Their collective experience includes being trained and then serving as faculty at Columbia and NYU, with clinical experiences in areas ranging from adult and child inpatient & outpatient psychiatry, emergency room and CPEP, ACT team, state hospital systems, school-based mental health, reproductive psychiatry programs, first episode psychosis programs, NIMH translational neuroscience research, and more. Early career clinicians previously trained by us have gone on to advance within our practice and/or to develop their own practices, as well as to thrive in numerous other practice settings.
